Yesterday, my two sisters and I headed out to Seymour, CT for afternoon tea at Tea with Tracy.
Initially, I wanted to bring them to Mrs. Bridges’ Pantry in Woodstock, CT where I went before. Sadly, the place was closed for the day. My sisters already went to Tea and Sympathy in the city two weeks ago, but as a tea drinker, I’m a firm believer that you can never have enough teas and visits to tea rooms. Good thing I stumbled upon Tea with Tracy online.
The moment you step in, you are greeted by this display with items for sale.
They were even selling Downton Abbey teas! See Mrs. Patmore and Daisy?
Check out that wall full of teas! They even sell Harney & Sons teas.
There were two tea rooms. Out of respect for the other customers’ privacy, I just took a picture of this side. Nice, right? I love, love, love the mismatched chairs! My sisters and I also realized that our mom actually owns a lot of those quaint little plates, cups and saucers.
Anyway, they offered an Afternoon Tea for Three that included a scone, a choice of tea sandwich, a dessert and a pot of tea per person.
With over 200 tea flavors, how do you even begin choosing your tea? We ended up with three pots of their Spring Teas – Champagne Raspberry in the red pot, Blueberry Crumb Cake in the yellow pot and Fruit Cocktail in the orange pot. The Fruit Cocktail tea had a lovely red color. Too bad I didn’t get a picture of it.
We had one savory and two sweet scones – Garlic, Cranberry Orange and Chocolate Chip Butterscotch.
For the tea sandwiches, we ordered the Chicken Curry Salad, Cranberry & Brie Tea, and Baked Ham with Gouda. All the sandwiches were on white and wheat bread cut into triangles without crusts.
Who says no to desserts? We ate Apple Torte, Pecan Pie and Banana Bread – a fitting end to our afternoon tea.
We saw one of the owners, Joel Tenpenny, without even realizing he was one of the owners. Too bad we didn’t see Tracy herself for whom the place is named after.
Verdict: Tea with Tracy is a good stop after visiting the antique shops in Seymour’s antique district. I found the tea room’s shabby chic style with its light blue and white interiors and mishmash of chairs so charming. With food presented in such pretty plates, it looked modestly portioned yet was really quite filling. If it was close to where I lived, I can imagine spending a blissful time in its relaxed and quiet ambiance. In my book, you can never have enough tea.
