Spices at The Peninsula Manila caught my eye when we went here for my mom’s birthday staycation last June (which I blogged about here). But since we already ate a lot during that stay, we didn’t have the chance to eat at Spices.
With floor-to-ceiling windows that open up to the pool and lush tropical gardens, Spices’ Balinese inspired décor transports diners to a Southeast Asian paradise. Spices presents the flavorful cuisines of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Sri Lanka and India.
I had plans to go back to The Peninsula Manila and eat there. Opportunity reared its lovely head when my older sister arrived from the U.S. After picking her up at the airport, I immediately suggested we head straight to The Peninsula Manila for lunch at The Lobby or even better at Spices. Happily, they agreed to my idea, so yay!
Here’s what we ate:
* Goi Cuon – Fresh rice paper summer rolls with shrimp, pork and coriander
* Nasi Goreng – Fried rice with shrimp, chicken and chili, topped with fried egg and satay
* Phad Thai – Sautéed rice noodles with shrimp, vegetables, and peanuts
* Murgh Makhani – North Indian tandoor roasted chicken served in silky tomato gravy
* Sweet & Sour Tofu – Red bell pepper, pineapple, tofu, basmati rice
For desserts, we ordered their award-winning Halo-halo Harana (with macapuno, langka, kaong, nata de coco, sweet beans, garbanzos, pinipig and ube, topped with shaved ice, ube ice cream and leche flan) and a Tropical Fruit Platter. She even got their sinfully rich Welcome Home! chocolate cake. 👍
Verdict:
I am only too glad to finally eat here. Spices has a well-curated and extensive menu that showcases the rich and vibrant flavors of Southeast Asian cuisine. Their savory selection of dishes excites the palate and is proportioned for sharing. Truly all good things are worth waiting for.
