For the longest time, Pizzeria Mazzo endured the same fate as The Cookhouse in New Milford (you can find my post about The Cookhouse here). “What fate is that?”, you may wonder. Passing by Pizzeria Mazzo many times, telling hubby, “we should check out that place”, but somehow never actually going. So near yet never been there! Happily, that situation changed lately.
On the evening that we went there for dinner, I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t read any reviews beforehand. It was a spur-of-the-moment decision that landed us there.
We didn’t wait to get seated. They just asked us whether we wanted to sit in the bar area or the dining area. We chose the dining area where it was quieter and sat in a booth. The interiors were somehow chic, the lighting slightly dark, which made picture-taking a bit difficult.
Just look at this chandelier.
I just love wines displayed like this.
After we checked their wine list, our server highly recommended their House Sangria, so we took her up on her suggestion. It was a delicious mix of green apples, strawberries, oranges, blueberries and cherries.
The lightly fried Crispy Artichokes paired well with the side of tomato sauce.
Hubby ate Chicken Romano with mushroom, artichokes and white wine served with potatoes and vegetables. Just a perfectly cooked and reasonably-portioned chicken dish for one person.
I ordered the Kobe Bar Burger with lettuce and tomato, plus a side of flame-grilled Tuscan fries. When you’re dealing with Kobe burger as full-flavored as this one, there was just no reason to gild the lily.
Verdict: Given this place is a pizzeria and a mozzarella bar, we should’ve ordered pizza and mozzarella, so that’s something we’ll try next time, plus more of their Italian tapas (Stuffed Jalapeno, Roasted littleneck clams, Roasted beets and fennel, Lobster Polenta). The wine options were pretty good. The food was presented well and tasted great. I’m not a big fan of its current location, though I’m glad that parking is plentiful. Its vibe seems better suited for the Mill Plain Road restaurant strip. Overall, we had a pretty good dining experience at Pizzeria Mazzo Mozzarella & Wine Bar with service that was attentive without being effusive. Definitely a must-try in Danbury.

Definitely check out the place when you’re in the area, Carrie!
