I’m a volunteer for the CT No Kid Hungry Campaign, so I’m sharing some information here. I’ll be in Kennedy Park tomorrow to help raise awareness about the free summer meals available throughout Danbury to all kids and teens, 18 years of age and under, when school is out.
Children need good nutrition all year long. When school is out during the summer months, many children no longer have access to even one nutritious meal each day. Without access to school meals, summer is the hungriest time of year for kids in need. Research shows a lack of nutrition during the summer months may set up a cycle for poor performance once school begins. We must do all we can to ensure that children get nutritious food during the summer months so that they are ready to learn during the school year.
Last summer, there was an increase of about 2600 more low-income children in CT making use of the Summer Meals programs every day! Let’s help increase these numbers this summer by helping to spread the word! CT’s Summer Meals programs are free for kids 18 and younger. No ID required, no paperwork to fill out, adults are not required to come either. IT’S FREE!
