My two old friends, Jojo and Josette, introduced me to Kanin Club back in 2009. Since then, I made sure that I eat there when we visit the Philippines. Other friends have brought me here too, but I never complain. I love their food.
Last year, I went to Kanin Club twice. One evening, when my mom and my dad wondered what to eat for dinner, I promptly suggested Kanin Club and dragged them to the restaurant. Good thing it was close to our house. 🙂
They wanted Ensaladang Talong and Crispy Tadyang. I was fine with whatever they wanted, as long as I had Aligue Rice, which is fried rice sautéed with crab fat. So bad for you yet sooo darn good. Mmmm!
This is Ensaladang Talong, which is grilled eggplants with freshly-chopped onions, tomatoes and vinaigrette.
This is the Crispy Tadyang described in their menu as “Crunchy and lightly seasoned beef spare ribs served with their 3 dipping sauces”.
And this is my much-loved Aligue Rice. Just looking at the picture makes me hungry!
In a separate visit, I met up with Jojo and, of course, where else did we go but Kanin Club? We ordered Thai Mango Green Salad (“Slivered green mangoes, onions, cilantro and peanuts, sprinkled with a sweet-salty mix.”), Aligue Rice (again? Of course!) and Tapa ni Ana (“Fried beef strips from Dr. Ana’s previously secret recipe”). Who is Dr. Ana? I have no clue.
This is the Thai Mango Salad, a lovely salad that I enjoy because of the green mangoes!
Here’s the Aligue Rice again. I just can’t quit you.
Lastly, the Tapa ni Ana.
As I said earlier, I love the food from Kanin Club. I even have a list of what to order the next time I visit:
- Ensaladang Mangga with Salted Egg – I heart Philippine mangoes!
- Ensaladang Talbos – never had this before, so I’ve got to try it.
- Binukadkad na Tilapia – a favorite
- Boneless Daing na Bangus – another favorite
- Lumpiang Sariwa – still a favorite
- Adobong Kangkong – um, yeah. . .love this!
- Pocherong Tinomas – never had this
- Sinangag na Sinigang – had this and loved it!
I’m not a big fan of going to the same restaurants over and over again, but Kanin Club is definitely one of the exceptions to my rule.
