If you’re into healthy food, smoothies and detox juices, then Hillside Cafe & Juice Bar is the place for you. My sister and I went here for lunch awhile back. It took me sometime to blog about it, but hey, better late than never, right?
Upon entering the place, I liked it immediately. I love how green it is. I already had a favorable impression of the place without even trying their stuff.
It’s a casual dining experience.
There’s my sister holding up/hiding behind the menu!
Here are the drinks we ordered: Beet It and Orange Crush.
Beet It, as expected, turned my teeth red. Arrrrggh! Why did I choose it? Oh yeah, the menu described it like this: “kidney cleanser, improves metabolism, aids digestion”. How can I say no to that? It had beet, carrot, orange and turmeric but the beet really monopolized the whole thing. My sister chose wisely with her Citrus Crush that had orange, lime and lemon, which was an “Immunity booster, lowers cholesterol, skin cleanser”.
Before our main dishes were served, we had their Lamb Hash Taro Chips, which is crispy gabi with lamb and tomato salsa.
I had Smoked Milkfish that was served with garlic brown rice, free range eggs and cucumber-tomato salad (although the tomato was missing).
My sister had Tomato & Herb Spaghetti with fresh heirloom tomatoes, whole peeled tomatoes, herbs, garlic, onion, grated carrots, vegetable stock, olive oil and parmesan cheese topped with olive tapenade.
After finishing my Beet It, I ordered Tropics Smoothie that was made of mango, papaya, pineapple, coconut water and coconut milk. I preferred this to Beet It. It didn’t turn my teeth red.
Verdict: “Natural. Fresh. Local. Sustainable. Organic. Whole.”
Those words pretty much sum up what Hillside Cafe & Juice Bar is all about. Located beside St. Mary’s College and inside Cedarhills Garden Center, they serve locally produced and modestly portioned food using organic ingredients. It is easy to taste the farm-to-table freshness. In fact, they make all-natural food taste rather appealing. Even better, they offer a pretty good selection of cold-pressed juices, wellness shots, superfood smoothies, coolers and organic coffee & teas.
Every now and then, we all need to do some clean eating. If you’re looking to grab a bite to eat, then pop in at Hillside Cafe & Juice Bar. They offer good eats that are simply good for you.
