My husband’s birthday proved to be the perfect time for my Malaysian encore! I finally found myself back in Kuala Lumpur to celebrate my husband’s birthday with a weekend trip. It was his first visit there, while it was my second time.
Why Kuala Lumpur?
Where we stayed
We stayed at the gorgeous Meliá Kuala Lumpur off Jalan Imbi right across Berjaya Times Square. We were assigned an impressive guestroom suite at The Level (you can find more info here).
How we got there
AirAsia got us to Kuala Lumpur and back to Manila without delays. It’s my second time to fly with AirAsia, and if they keep up the good work, I’ll just keep booking flights with them.
What we did
For our weekend trip, I was more organized than during my first visit, and booked three activities to keep us busy:
-
- Malaysian Cultural Night – We explored Kuala Lumpur’s back streets, cultural attractions and shopping areas after sunset, visited the busy Chinatown where you can look for truly unique souvenirs to bring back home, saw the oldest Hindu temple in town – Sri Maha Mariamman Temple founded in 1873, and completed the evening with a rich buffet of local delicacies as you watch a wonderful show of Malaysian traditional dancing at the Love@Matic.Funnily, it wasn’t enough that we watched the traditional show. They made sure that there was audience participation! I’m not posting pictures here though.
- Kuala Lumpur Street Food Tour – This fun and immersive tour of Kuala Lumpur’s street food led by a very knowledgeable tour guide allowed us to try the best food stalls and shops that are unknown to most tourists.
- Kuala Lumpur Half Day City Tour – We discovered the sights of KL including Petronas Twin Towers, the Handicraft Centre, the Cocoa Boutique, and made photo stops at the King’s Palace, National Museum, National Mosque (photo stop), National Monument, and the Sultan Abdul Samad Building & Dataran Merdeka.

-
- AirAsia Go for their air and hotel package
- Klook for their easy-to-book activities
- Simply Enak
- Melia Kuala Lumpur for assigning us to The Level guestroom. I booked the standard room, so the upgrade is more than welcome. I wonder if telling them it was my husband’s birthday weekend celebration made the difference?
-
Our trip wasn’t sponsored by those entities, but they made our trip easier and more fun, thus, worth a mention..
In conclusion
Even while we were still there, hubby was already saying we should go back to Malaysia in the near future. Guess he also enjoyed the country as much as I did!
