We’ve passed by Foundry Kitchen and Tavern many times before. Each time, I’d tell my husband, “we should try that place.” At night, it looked like a bustling place. During the day, it looked like a nice spot for a leisurely lunch. Well, we finally went there and here’s what happened.
This. Cucumber Elderflower Fizz. It’s got Prairie Cucumber Vodka, Bertina Elderflower Liqueur and fresh lemon juice, then topped with Mionette Prosecco and garnished with a salted cucumber slice. It was such a refreshing drink on a sunny day.
Have you heard of Elotes? It’s grilled Mexican corn with sour cream, cotija cheese, cilantro, chile and lime. A tasty appetizer.
Ever had BLFGT? It’s BLT with fried green tomatoes. You get a thick cut of bacon, bibb lettuce, pimento cheese and fried green tomatoes on rye bread. By the way, I chose rye bread instead of either white or wheat.
My husband ate this Smoked Brisket French Dip with Swiss cheese, caramelized onions and pickles on a club roll.
It was a nice day so we sat outside their creekside deck. At some point, it got a little too warm for comfort. Thankfully, they had outdoor blinds that we managed to pull down to protect us from the sun.
Verdict: Foundry Kitchen and Tavern serve what they call “‘elevated’ tavern food”. It’s organic as well as hormone- and antibiotic-free. They offer gluten-free and vegetarian options. Service was friendly and attentive without being overly friendly. The place is decorated in a rustic and vintage manner. On the day we went, the creekside deck was the place to be as there were plenty of us sitting out there. When I checked inside the dining room, there were plenty of empty tables.
They describe themselves pretty accurately online – “[A]rea-sourced pub fare with a twist served in a relaxed, historical setting with a creekside deck.” If you’re curious about their food, you can find their menu here. It’s definitely well worth a visit.
