Food trucks are a dime a dozen nowadays, but sometimes we learn about a food truck that’s just worth a mention here.
I’m talking about Melt Mobile. Hubby and I attended a media event at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center in Stamford, CT to find out more about them.
Melt Mobile started back in 2012 and owned by two very entrepreneurial women – Darlene Anderson and Diana Hall. But 2016 is a year of growth for their business – now they’re franchising.
Darlene and Diana’s partnership is clearly designed for success. Darlene has the management expertise down pat while Diana has the culinary chops.
Melt Mobile with its slogan “Take it Cheesy” presents the grilled cheese sandwich in a different way. Check out their menu below.
While we arrived later than our other colleagues, here are some of our new discoveries from Melt Mobile. Only goes to show you, grilled sandwiches can be more than what you and I know.
Just have a look at this Short Rib Melt!
It has braised short rib, caramelized onions and four different cheeses – Vermont cheddar, Monterey Jack, mozzarella and Gruyere – on country white bread. As you can see, they don’t skimp on the meat. We were off to a good start!
This chick enjoyed the Hot Chick Melt. It came with grilled chicken, ghost pepper jack cheese, poblano avocado ranch on sourdough bread. Just look at how beautiful the melted cheese is!
Their Meatball 3 Cheese Squeeze was described on their menu as, “Diana’s Meatballs in Marinara, Fresh Mozzarella, Pecorino Romano, Parmigiano Reggiano and Fresh Basil on Tuscan Bread.” I was a messy eater with this one, but well worth the effort!
This was my plate sans the Short Rib Melt (which I already ate).
Another favorite of mine from the event – the Jalapeño Popper Melt. It had apple wood-smoked bacon (you can never go wrong with that!) plus Vermont cheddar and cream cheese on cheddar-crusted country white bread.
I nearly missed this next one, The Caprese. With fresh mozzarella, Prosciutto di Parma, fire-roasted peppers, tomato, arugula and pesto aioli on kalamata olive bread, there is no way you should miss this sandwich!
The last savory sandwich of the night was this White Truffle Melt. Made with mascarpone cheese, fontina, truffles and mushrooms on Tuscan bread, I took a bite of this sandwich and it was delicious. . . oh my goodness!
Just when I thought that we were done stuffing our faces with food, the desserts came along.
Perhaps you’ve never encountered this before. Behold the Cheesecake Melt!
Imagine a creamy New York cheesecake right smack in between two slices of grilled – yes, you read that right – grilled marble pound cake dusted with powdered sugar. Mmmm!
Then there was the Fluffernutter with caramelized bananas, marshmallow fluff, Belgian chocolate and peanut butter on crunchy Tuscan Bread, which was again dusted with powdered sugar. Nothing cheesy about this one, but a good dessert option nonetheless.
Verdict: Melt Mobile successfully managed to innovate and elevate the much-adored grilled cheese.
Thankfully, they’re no longer limited to Stamford. With their franchising plans in place, trying their delicious food will become, quite possibly, very accessible to all of us non-Stamford residents. They’re truly a welcome addition to Fairfield County. (If you’re interested in their franchise, you can find more info here.)
It’s not the grilled cheese we all know and love, but you just might surprise yourself and fall in love with their takes on this sandwich. Even better, you’ll be supporting a women-owned local business Not bad, right?
Don’t forget to say cheese!

The Cheesecake Melt looks so good! It’s been a while since I’ve had Melt Mobile. They’ve got a lot of new tasty creations.
They do! Glad they’re expanding.
Wow. Those look delicious. Not only do I love a good grilled cheese, but that Fluffernutter sandwich is calling my name!
