Yummy Experiment #6: Boule

Yummy Experiment #6: Boule

Another Sunday, another baking day. With all the hoopla surrounding the Super Bowl, I decided to bake my own boule.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cup lukewarm water
  • 1/2 tablespoon granulated yeast
  • 3/4 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

Mix all the ingredients in a big bowl or plastic container. Let it rest for two hours.

After resting, shape the dough into a ball then let it rest on a pizza peel covered with parchment paper.

Pre-heat oven to 350 F.

Dust with flour and make shallow cuts on top of the dough. Put the loaf with the parchment paper on the baking stone. Pour 1 cup of hot water into the broiler tray, and close the oven door. Bake for 30-35 minutes.

Once done, cool for two hours.

In honor of the 2014 Super Bowl, I present my Super Boule!

This thing of beauty took such a short time to bake. Like most freshly-baked breads, it made our place smell wonderful while it was baking!
