Ever tried mint sugar? Me neither.
Having a mint plant in my little herb garden that has grown so much since June, I felt bad for the plant. Its companions basil and parsley were seeing so much kitchen action, but mint was hardly used.


Today, I snipped off some branches from my mint plant. I washed them and dried them using my salad spinner.

Not knowing what to do with the leaves, I checked out Epicurious and found a recipe for Mint Sugar. The recipe called for:
- 1/4 cup packed fresh mint leaves
- 1/2 cup sugar
I confess, I didn’t even bother to measure the leaves. I did measure the sugar. I removed the leaves from the branches.

I placed the leaves inside our mini food processor.

Then I added the sugar.

I pressed the GRIND button. This is how the mint leaves and sugar looked like after being ground up.

I transferred the mint sugar in a glass container. The recipe said to use an airtight container, but I couldn’t find one. I hope this will do in the meantime!


According to the recipe, “[T]his is also delicious sprinkled over fresh fruit or stirred into iced tea.” Maybe I’ll sprinkle this mint sugar over sliced oranges and pineapple.

 
				     
			


Hi Cecilia, I don’t eat sugar, but your blog and the photo’s of the mint in the blender have inspired me to make some Mint pesto… I’ll let you know how I go.
